Unison, the union that represents Scotland’s nursery nurses, has called for a national pay structure on the back of the Scottish Executive’s Early Years and Childcare Workforce Inquiry, published last week. Carol Ball, chair of the union’s nursery nurse working party and a member of the review group, welcomed the recommendations for national qualifications and job descriptions, but was deeply concerned that the executive seemed to have “set its face against the obvious next step of a national framework of grades”.
