OU suspension was right

I APPLAUD the Open University for the decision it has taken to temporarily suspend its primary postgraduate certificate in education (TES, October 2).

As an OU PGCE alumna I know that its materials are extremely thorough, and feel that this is vital for students working without the regular face-to-face interaction with tutors and other students. The OU’s commitment to provide accurate and supportive information for students is proven by the decision it has made, knowing that in the timescale, it would not be possible to make all the necessary alterations while maintaining the quality of the materials.

I know students due to start in 1999 will be disappointed, but the OU has acted in their interests.
