* The National Dairy Council’s museum collection is now based at Longdown Dairy Farm, Ashurst, near Southampton. It features vintage milk carts, a Victorian dairy, a dairy produce shop and a science display which includes an early pasteuriser. The farm has a 160-strong pedigree Jersey herd and a variety of livestock. A teachers’ pack is available. Tel: 01703 293326.

* Reconstructed on its original site, the new West Stow Anglo Saxon Village, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, houses an exhibition on every aspect of Anglo-Saxon life from farming to fashion, from crafts to cremation. Most of the exhibits belonged to ordinary Anglo-Saxons who lived in the 5th, 6th and 7th centuries and include brooches, tools and pottery. Tel: 01284 728718.
