I READ with interest the letter “Training could have avoided tragedy” (TES, November 3). The writer asked why all teacher-training courses did not include residential outdoor education trips.

The Field Studies Council already does this. This year it will work with 500 trainees to promote safe and enjoyable activities outside th classroom. As a charity, we offer these weekend courses at a subsidised rate and at 12 locations around England and Wales to maximise accessibility.
