Chef and restaurateur, Prue Leith OBE, is taking over from Richard Martineau as chair of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.

Richard Hinxman, director of learning resources at Writtle Agricultural College, Essex, has been appointed principal of Cannington College, Bridgwater, Somerset, from January 1, 1996. Meanwhile, Lynn Dudley will continue as acting principal.

The Department of National Heritage has appointed Suzy Brain, managing director of the JMLS library supply company, to the Advisory Council on Libraries.

Sandra Kernan, general manager of ASA Education (Audio Secretaries Agency), has been elected chair of the specialist education section of the Federation of Recruitment and Employment Services.
