Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by Joanne Rowling, published by Bloomsbury Children’s Books, has won this year’s gold medal in the 9-11 age group of the Nestle Smarties Book Prize, a top children’s fiction award.
The author, who lives in Edinburgh, intends this to be the first of seven Harry Potter books to take the hero, a trainee wizard, through his career.
