Literacy: make up names for vitaminsminerals which enhance physical attributes or performance. Compile a class “Supplement Brochure”. Develop recipes for potions to improve yourself. Use as a stimulus Meg and Mog by Jan Pienkowski, George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl, and Harry Potter by JK Rowling.

Numeracy: Make up a shopping basket of differently priced supplements - do money number stories based on this. Experiment with anti-wrinkle cream by rubbing it on dried prunes and see if they turn back into plums!

Citizenship: Bring in a variety of food packages and make lists of the ingredients. What claims do breakfast cereals make? Make up a radioTVnewspaper ad for a new breakfast cereal. Debate the pros and cons of food supplements.
