www.type: effective typographic design for the World Wide Web. by Roger Pring, series consultant Alastair Campbell. pound;17.99. Weidenfeld and Nicolson.

ALTHOUGHWritten with the professional designer in mind, this witty and technically thorough book would also prove useful reading for teachers and pupils who want to sharpen the look of their websites.

The book displays a wealth of well-designed sites and provides examples of how to present type. Also valuable are its tables that advise on the appearance of colour on-screen.

However, the author insists that “the fundamental principles which governI the ‘old’ world of print typography are still vitally important”. So don’t go expecting any short-cuts.
