Shocked schoolchildren have set up a website in memory of a popular teacher who was killed after being hit by a bus in Cardiff this week.

Fflur Bedwyr, who taught religious education at the Welsh-medium secondary Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg in Barry, South Glamorgan, died after the collision in the centre of the capital on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old was a graduate of Trinity College in Carmarthen and had also taught at the Welsh-medium secondary Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf in Cardiff.

Within hours of her death, pupils had set up a memorial website - www.missbedwyrrip.com - and posted dozens of tributes on a special page on the social networking site Facebook.

Rebecca Haf Thomas wrote: “The whole reason I took RE was because of Miss B. She was one in a million - always there for anyone and there to listen.

“I’m going to miss her so much. RE will never be the same again, the school will never be the same.”

Former pupil Sam Philp wrote: “RIP Miss Bedwyr. I remember you teaching me RE eight years ago in Glantaf. You were the best RE teacher ever. Will be sadly missed.”

A number of pupils also paid tribute to Miss Bedwyr’s sense of fashion and fondness for wearing “wacky tights”.

Pupils also gathered at Bro Morgannwg on Wednesday afternoon at 3.05pm - the normal end of the school day - for an impromptu memorial service, leaving dozens of floral tributes at the school gates.

Miss Bedwyr was a county secretary for the Vale of Glamorgan for the Welsh-medium teaching union UCAC and a member of its general council.

Elaine Edwards, general secretary of UCAC, said: “Fflur was very hardworking and a valuable asset to UCAC. We were all very shocked when we heard the terrible news and we send our condolences to her family. She will be sorely missed.”

Dylan Jones, head of Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg, said: “She had a wonderful, warm personality and was highly regarded. She made an immeasurable contribution to both the school and the pupils’ development and was one of the mainstays of the school.”
