Your “social attitudes” article (“By the numbers”, 16 December) seems to confuse issues of class with personal aspiration. What the research appears to demonstrate is that private school-educated individuals develop high levels of aspiration and self-belief.

I think that it would be wrong to conclude that aspiration is the preserve of the middle class.
