Racism is shocking but not a surprise

The research findings on “endemic racism” point to a worrying trend. One of the reasons English is the preeminent language for global commerce and academia is that English-speaking culture is seen as tolerant and plural in comparison with the cultures of other major world languages. It benefits from English-speaking talent from all across the world, but this can only remain the case if British life remains open to different cultures.
