Repairing weak links

This issue has to be addressed if we are hoping to succeed and prosper in a global market (“Europe seeks to mend the ‘weak link’ of adult skills”, 3 May). Governments and employers across the European Union need to find a way to ensure that learning opportunities are made readily available so that we build a highly skilled workforce. We have to think of long-term investment and act now to give people better opportunities that will benefit our economies and address the mismatch between the skills that people have and the skills that employers need.

Suzie Webb, Director of education, Association of Accounting Technicians.
