THE Government has warned that children under five and pregnant women should stay away from reptiles after a three-week-old baby died of salmonella caught from a pet lizard.

Nine ou of 10 reptiles - including snakes and terrapins - carry the bug, which can cause meningitis. Four other children have caught salmonella from reptiles in the past six months.
