S-cool, the excellent educational website for teenagers that launched late last year, has expanded to include a careers section. Students in the process of choosing their GCSEs or AS-levels will be able to find out how to select subjects that best match their career aspirations. They’ll also be able to complete a psychometric test to find out if they really are suited to the career of their choice.
Those who are unsure about a career path can check out the comprehensive job description section, which includes details on qualifications and training, necessarypersonal attributes, and, most importantly, starting salary. Disappointingly, S-cool has no hyperlinks to relevant organisations, but it does have addresses and telephone numbers.
Companies are listed in alphabetical order rather than by profession, which would have been much more useful.
As well as the new careers section, S-cool offers a mix of detailed revision notes and lessons, discussion groups and entertainment listings. The service is free, and the commercial intrusions are fairly low key. The site can be accessed at www.s-cool.co.uk
