Just when you thought we were going to get off lightly this winter, wham! The first heavy snowfalls of the year have already meant that for many children, last week would have been spent joyfully refining their toboganning skills.

Something To Think About, BBC2‘s series for infant assemblies, has a topical slant for this dramatic season and offers its usual mix of stories, songs and suggestions for discussion - on a chilly theme. The first unit is about the hedgehog who couldn’t sleep and one of the questions posed is “What would it be like if humans hibernated?” Nice.

Something To Think About Teachers’ notes cost pound;3, tapes pound;2 and a resource book pound;11.99 from BBC Education, 0181 746 1111
