Name: John Clark. Position: Chairman of governors, Parliament Hill school for girls, Camden, London

Q If you had David Blunkett’s budget what would your priority be?

A I would give all staff, teachers and administrators an annual personal development budget of pound;2,000 which they could spend however they wished - as long as it involved learning. Some might spend it on a Masters course, but others might prefer to learn how to dance the salsa.

Q If you ha a blank cheque for your own school what would you buy?

A At least one new building with landscaping and improvements to the rest of the premises.

Q What treat would you buy yourself?

A I’m torn between a month trekking in the Himalayas, a shopping bag full of electronic gizmos or a season ticket to the Arsenal.

John Clark was talking to Reva Klein. If you’d like to publish a shopping list for education, please e-mail friday@tes.co.uk
