WW2010: Weather World 2010 Project. ww2010.atmos.uiuc.edu(Gh)home.rxml.

This site, the result of a project at the University of Illinois’s department of atmospheric sciences, contains a host of resources for students of meteorology.

Look for example, in the Online Guides section. Here you’ll find a set of modules providing explanations of various phenomena, from a classification of clouds to a sequence of satellite images showing the genesis of a hurricane. There’s as much detail as you need or want and because of the cunning navigation system you can skip in and out of the topics at any stage. If you’re about to travel to the USA, you can check what things will be like at your destination in Current Weather, slipping into the Reading weather maps section as and when you need.

Glasgow School of Art

The Glasgow School of Art, famous for its Charles Rennie Mackintosh building, is also highly rated by internet types for its oh-so-cool web site design.

The look of the site is in fact not especially groundbreaking. The minimalism in a hundred shades of grey can be found at hundreds of other sites.

What is great about it is the way it celebrates the achievements of its students. The “virtual galleries” provide space, not just for final year students’ degree shows, but also past students. An exhibition of the theses of graduates of the Mackintosh School of Architecture over the past 25 years is a case in point.
