New teaching materials are being distributed free to colleges as part of a pound;31 million package of resources courtesy of the Government’s Success for All strategy.
Skills minister Phil Hope said that trials of the package showed “an immediate pay back in terms of higher motivation, better retention, and more active learning”.
He claimed the resources have also boosted achievement and led to improved inspection grades.
He said: “Nine out of 10 teachers reported better teaching and training methods and greater understanding of good professional practice.”
Lesson plans, professional development materials, workbooks, and card and information technology-based activities are being sent out in DVD, CD-Rom, video and print.
Resources for four curriculum areas are being sent out this month. These areas are health and social care, ITC technologies, land-based studies and mathematics.
Materials for business, construction, entry to employment and science went out last year, and resources, adult and community learning, engineering and modern foreign languages will be distributed next September.
“Students deserve innovative, stimulating teaching and training,” Mr Hope said. This would help make best use of resources.
