A teacher with a string of drink-driving convictions has been allowed to continue teaching, providing he stays off alcohol.
Stephen Crawford, who was head of art at Southland school in New Romney, Kent, was told that if he wants to return to teaching he must submit medical evidence to the England’s General Teaching Council proving his abstinence. He must also inform schools about the GTC’s ruling.
Mr Crawford, who did not attend the hearing and was not represented, resigned in 2004.
In a statement to the tribunal, Eamonn Cahill, his former head, said: “Mr Crawford was an exceptional teacher.”
The tribunal heard that Mr Crawford did not dispute any of the convictions.
