The Department for Education and Skills is one of the best employers for gay, lesbian and bisexual people in Britain.
Lobby group Stonewall placed it joint sixth on a “corporate equality index” ranking organisations by how far they promote anti-discrimination policies.
The DfES was outshone by the British Council, the banks Citigroup and Credit Suisse, the technology giant IBM and Manchester city council.
