William Straw, the 17-year-old son of Jack Straw, the Home Secretary, was cautioned by police last Monday for selling pound;10 of cannabis to an undercover Daily Mirror reporter.

Mr Straw said his son was learning the lessons of the episode. His friend, also 17, will also be cautioned. Dawn Alford, the journalist arrested by the police after she bought the substance, has been told no further action would be taken against her. William is studying for his A-levels at Pimlico School and an offer of a place at New College, Oxford, is safe.
