Music

- Cumnock Academy in East Ayrshire has taken delivery of 26 steel pans - for music. After the pupils took part in the first Scottish Steel Pan Festival in Nairn, the council asked musician Toussaint Clarke to handcraft pans for the school. The pupils have now had their first workshops with Garnock Academy’s music teacher, Allison Finnigan.

PE

- Education Scotland, with sportscotland, is hosting free events for early years practitioners, primary teachers, primary specialist PE teachers and secondary PE teachers in December and January. The events will explore pedagogy that facilitates learning and some of the perceived barriers to meeting the government’s commitment to at least two hours a week of high-quality PE in primary and S1-4.

Outdoor learning

- Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park has launched a new pilot scheme to help schools and outreach groups to experience the great outdoors in the park by offering educational travel grants. These would cover up to 75 per cent of transport costs to and from schools, or from a group’s meeting place to the park, and the costs of accessing Inchcailloch island.
