- Children in Scotland has launched a website to bring Curriculum for Excellence to life for pupils. BeXcellent offers a guide to CfE, activities for independent learning and resources to support learners. A BeXcellent competition closes on 8 June.

Health
- Kyle Academy in South Ayrshire has become the second school in Scotland to be presented with a Cycle Friendly Secondary School Award by Cycling Scotland, for promoting cycling as a fun, active way to travel to school. Future plans include completing the Duke of Edinburgh awards by “Bike not Hike” and creating a cycle skills course.

Modern languages
- “Who inspired you to learn languages?” That’s the question in a survey by the European Commission, which aims to encourage more pupils to learn languages. A link to the survey can be found on the SCILT website.

Past glories
History
- Twelve- and 13-year-old junior historians at Bridge of Earn’s Kilgraston School unearthed some interesting ancestors when researching their family trees. Daisy Galbraith found that her ancestors had fought at Bannockburn, Agincourt and Waterloo. Other pupils traced links to famous actors, poets, politicians and military leaders. James IV of Scotland was the crowning glory for one girl.
Bengali bard
Literature
- A centre dedicated to the life and works of a man described as India’s bard and the Bengali Shakespeare has been launched at Edinburgh Napier University’s Institute of Creative Industries. Rabindranath Tagore, who was the first non-white Nobel Prize winner for literature in 1913, penned thousands of poems and songs before his death in 1941, and his work was translated into hundreds of languages.
