For most of the year, Kinross is a quiet Scottish town overlooking Loch Leven, where the closest the locals come to rocking and rolling is riding down a cobbled lane on a shopping bike.

But this weekend, 50,000 revellers will descend on the Gaelic outpost for a weekend of beer, hedonism and dirty music. There were still tickets available at lastminute.com at the time of going to press, and eBay and Ticketmaster are always worth checking out for resales.

There’s no shortage of famous faces at this year’s festival, including Amy Winehouse, REM, The Kooks, Kate Nash, The Fratellis, Primal Scream, The Prodigy and the perennially irritated Rage Against the Machine all doing sets.

But if you need a break from all the directionless anger, you can chill out at the Healthy T area, a sop to the festival goer’s conscience that serves nutritious food all day. And the Silent Disco makes a welcome return. If you haven’t experienced this phenomenon, think dancing to your iPod alongside 50 or 60 like-minded souls, without the risk of being sectioned.
