Learners and teachers with visual impairment can now carry their PCs in their pockets. Thanks to flash memory pens loaded with access software and their own screen settings, they can now use any compatible PCs as if they were their own.
Created by Dolphin, the pen also allows text to be converted into a digital talking book, using a speech synthesiser. It plugs straight into the USB slot on a PC and automatically saves any settings on the pen, so the next time it needs to be used just plug it in and go.
The pen could help children with sight problems, language difficulties, print impairments, dyslexia and many other issues. The pen comes in a range of types to suit the user, for example screen magnifier, screen reader and many more. Prices also vary with the type, from pound;360 to pound;1,000.
