Your job and career questions answered

Having completed a degree which included studying German, French and Spanish, will it matter which I choose to study for my PGCE? German is my strongest subject, with French grammatically stronger but less used. My Spanish is strong conversationally but less so grammatically. I’d be grateful for any advice.

A: Choose the one you most want to teach. French is still taught in many schools, but Spanish has become more popular recently. German is often a second subject. There are plenty of vacancies on PGCE courses for these languages and for combined modern languages courses. These recognise your dilemma and appreciate that many heads of languages departments have to work with staff who teach several different tongues. There are places on courses for primary teachers with language qualifications who want to teach younger children.
