THE cost of teachers’ salaries in England and Wales has risen by 16 per cent in the past two years, the largest increase for a decade.
Schools minister Stephen Timms said teachers’ salaries were estimated to have risen by 9.8 per cent in 2001 and 5.4 per cent in 2002. The 2001 rise was the biggest for more than a decade.
