what is wrong with today’s youth? Not content with merely loafing around, it seems modern teenagers want to spend their lives beating the effects of climate change.

That is one of the findings from new research which suggests there is a strong environmental flavour to teenagers’ career aspirations.

And employers with green credentials will be more likely to attract the brightest candidates. The research was carried out by the Department for Children, Schools and Families to mark the start of a pound;6 million, three- year campaign to encourage students to study maths and science A- levels.

The research was based on a sample of 1,002 11 to 18-year-olds.
