DOES a teacher of food technology need to be qualified in the subject and in the use of specialist equipment?
No. As far as I am aware, there is no equipment commonly in use in teaching this subject for which a specialist qualification is required. One does not need to be qualified in te subject to teach it. The onus is on the head to ensure that a non-specialist teacher has the professional
competence.
This does not discharge the teacher concerned from a professional duty of care in ensuring that appropriate health and safety precautions are in place.
