“Tie-cutting” assembly

* It was fascinating to read the account of the “tie-cutting” assembly (“Head cuts inspector’s tie up”, TES, February 11).

I first saw this assembly about 30 years ago and then again about eight years ago when it was delivered by a colleague who had seen it at the same time as I had all those years before. On both occasions, a pupil volunteer was sought and presented with a new tie afterwards.

So has the idea travelled from here in Burton to Blackpool - or did it come from one of those much-loved “assembly ideas” books? Anyone out there know?
