A COLLEGE which has a world-wide reputation was this week given a further boost with the award of higher education status.

Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies, already a centre of vocational excellence, has earned the accolade after increasing HE activity to more than 55 per cent of its provision.

HE status does not allow the college to describe itself as a university, but will increase its credibility as it continues to market itself to students from abroad, said principal Eddie McIntyre. It already attracts students from 63 countries.

The LSC provides 32 per cent of the college’s funding - the lowest proportion for any FE college in England. “People can join us with few or no qualifications and go all the way through to a masters degree,” said Mr McIntyre.
