Phil Parker’s Learning for Life (“Finding a pattern to follow”, TESpro, 25 May) is a method that he claims can be understood by pupils and parents. Yet it includes highly ambiguous phrases such as self-awareness and thoughtfulness as though they had as much rigour as the words kilo or metre. Did teachers at the 50 schools where Team, Reflective, Independent and Creative Skills (TRICS) is employed enjoy a trial period before deciding its value? Or did someone foist TRICS upon them?

Neil Richardson, Kirkheaton.
