Last week you published letters from Paul Francis and Colin Richards. Your readers deserve some context.

I interviewed Francis for a number of headships in Shropshire in the 1980s. He was unsuccessful. I removed Richards from his post as primary adviser at Ofsted in the 1990s. Neither gentleman has yet, it appears, achieved what I believe is termed “closure”.
