Union attacks Queen’s man forabuse remarks

AUSTRALIA: The Australian Education Union has told the Queen’s representative, Governor-General Peter Hollingworth, to stay away from government schools.

This union’s unprecedented action follows widespread controversy over reports that Mr Hollingworth failed to take action over claims of sexual abuse against Anglican students while he was Archbishop of Brisbane.

He was also forced to apologise for comments he made on television that implied he was more supportive of priest offenders than their victims.

Union president Denis Fitzgerald said: “People should not be dismissive of remarks that seek to blame victims for their own victimhood, especially when it comes from one of the highest offices in the land.”
