The Trades Union Congress, represented by a heavily-pregnant Cherie Booth QC, has taken the Government to court in a row over parental leave. New European law adopted by the UK means parents can take unpaid leave of up o 13 weeks to care for a young child before their fifth birthday. However the TUC is angry that, in Britain, the new rules exclude the 2.7 million parents of children under five born before December 15 1999.
