The biggests concern heads have when taking on supply staff is being confident that they have been rigorously vetted. New research shows that a thorough investigation into the backgrounds of prospective supply teachers is the most important issue for supply agencies to address.

“Running police checks on supply teachers is currently a hot issue, and it’s no surprise that vetting came out top,” says Debbie Allinson, director of Capita Education Resourcing, which commissioned the survey. “It’s vital that a whole raft of checks are carried out into, among other things, identity, references, qualifications, and health.”

More than 200 heads and teachers in England took part. StaND C551
