Scotland Street School Museum, 225 Scotland Street, Glasgow. Tel: 0141 287 0500; www.glasgowmuseums.com; admission free

One of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s finest buildings, the Scotland Street School Museum is hosting a series of exhibitions and events next year to celebrate its centenary. Opened in 1906, the school only closed in 1979, but its contribution to the education of Glasgow’s young has not been lost.

Today’s pupils can experience what it was like to go to school in Victorian times, and meet a Victorian school mistress; or they can sit in a reconstructed classroom from the Second World War. They can also try their design skills in the Mackintosh room, or simply learn about his design for the building.
