October has been designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and plans are available for both primary and secondary school assemblies.

For younger children, there’s the eccentric Professor Pink-Pants who displays his underwear outside his trousers but - more seriously - works to find a cure for a potentially lethal disease. There are also many “wear-it-pink” fundraising suggestions for older pupils, with the emphasis here less on comedy than on how charities operate and how they can be supported. Ideas for International Women’s Day (March 8, 2006) and National Science Week ( March 10-19, 2006) put the issues in a broader context.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month fundraising packs and assembly plans can be ordered at: Tel: 0800 1073104 Email: schools@bcc-uk.org
