Your job and career questions answered

I am a British teacher and have been teaching overseas for the past five years. Now I want to move back to the UK. I have nine years’ teaching experience. How much could I expect in my pay packet each month? I think my experience puts me at M6.

It depends on whether you teach in or around London or elsewhere in England or Wales. In Central London, you would be on pound;31,749, whereas in, say Newcastle, it would be pound;28,005. Compared with teaching overseas, there is the benefit of being able to join the teachers’ pension scheme.

This is a generous index-linked scheme that is still tied to final salary.
