Anyone looking for light-hearted web pursuits should try www.footee.net, which has educational content aimed at key stage 2. The site features games and challenges that encourage pupils to use their literacy and numeracy skills and extend their design and technology, PE, science and geography knowledge. The games and challenges use footballing scenarios but players don’t need much knowledge of the game to take part.
The attraction for children is the chance to create their own virtual football team from the top 250 male and female footballers in Europe. By playing games, taking part in the challenges and watching tutorials, they’ll earn “balls”, which they can use to buy better players. Their teams will be entered into leagues and competitions with other virtual teams managed by their peers.
Teachers can go online to see how each game is linked to the curriculum. Later, they will be able to set a specific game for the whole class to play and get a printout of the results. They can also apply online for a teaching pack, which includes lesson plans, activity ideas, a video and worksheets.
