As a wise woman once told us, music makes the people come together.

So, whether you’re a bourgeoisie or a rebel, it makes sense that a tune or two can do the business when you need a boost.

And Tes’ very own diva pop icon Sarah Simons has five suggestions tailored to FE teachers’ lives. So hey, Mr DJ, put these records on.

  1. When you feel utterly defeated by a group and need to remember that you’re in charge: whack on Get Back by Ludacris and dance like Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder.
  2. When your personal life is affecting your work but you must carry on regardless, chuckle along to Make ‘Em Laugh by Donald O’Connor (and marvel at his dance moves - especially impressive, given he smoked four packs of fags a day).
  3. When it feels like the students hate you, but you will continue being the best teacher you can be, just to spite them, get your Glee on and sing along to Hate On Me by Amber Riley.
  4. When you have empathy for your students even though they’re giving you a hard time, go 80s retro with Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears.
  5. When you trust in your capacity to make it work, strut your stuff to The Imperial March - aka Darth Vader’s theme from Star Wars.

True, music won’t solve all your problems. But after bopping to this playlist, you’ll feel a bit better equipped to take them on. You’re never gonna stop.
