The 147 schools named by DfE as having RAAC

The Department for Education (DfE) has published a full list of nearly 150 schools with confirmed reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC).

As of 30 August, the DfE list includes 147 named schools that have confirmed the presence of RAAC, which is prone to collapse.

Of these, 43 have had to take actions to mitigate the risk, including 19 that have had to delay the start of term due to RAAC.

Another 20 schools on the list are currently in a mix of face-to-face and remote learning, and four are fully remote.

There are 82 primary schools listed as having confirmed RAAC, along with 59 secondaries.

And the list comprises 100 academies and free schools, 31 community or foundation schools, 14 voluntary aided or voluntary controlled schools, and two further education settings.

The list reveals the East of England is most affected, with 65 schools on the list. The next most impacted region is the South East, with 21 schools on the government’s confirmed list, while London and the North East have the third and fourth most affected schools at 16 and 14 respectively.

The list shows there are nine schools in the West Midlands, five in the East midlands and four in Yorkshire and Humber confirmed by the DfE to have RAAC.

The DfE had previously said that 156 schools were affected, but nine schools are not listed as the department says further investigation revealed that they did not have RAAC. Of those, 52 already had mitigations in place.
