TES books editor Geraldine Brennan on the inside literary track

Herve Tullet, known in France as “the prince of pre-school books” has a growing UK following thanks to his collaboration with Michael Rosen on Alphabet Poem (“Monkeys make movies, Noses need nets, Owls open ovens, People polish pets” and so on). Their picture alphabet book, published by Milet, picked up a National Literacy Association Wow! award this year. Now the author and illustrator are among the stars of next term’s Children’s Book Show, which focuses on children’s books in translation. Catch them at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield on October 18 at 1pm (tel 0114 249 6000 or see www.offtheshelf.org). The seven-week “book show” kicks off on October 3 to launch Children’s Book Week at the British Library in London with Swedish novelist Stefan Casta (whose teenage novel The Summer with Mary-Lou is published in English by Andersen Press). See www.booktrusted.co.ukcbwbookshow for full details of these and other Children’s Book Show events in Oxford, Manchester, Ilkley, Newcastle and Leicester.
