The chief executive of the OCR exam board, Leo Shapiro, has stepped down from his position. 

Cambridge Assessment, which OCR is part of, confirmed that Mr Shapiro has moved on from his role, though he continues to work for the assessment organisation.

He has been replaced by Janet Morris as interim chief executive. 

In a statement, Cambridge Assessment said: "Janet Morris joined OCR on Monday as interim chief executive from its sister organisation, Cambridge Assessment International Education, bringing with her a wealth of experience of senior management at a major exam board.

 "She succeeds Leo Shapiro, who is moving on as part of a planned change to support the new Cambridge Assessment group CEO, in a role which is more compatible with his family responsibilities. We plan to advertise for a permanent chief executive in due course."

High turnover of leadership

The news comes at a time of high leadership turnover at Cambridge Assessment. 

Earlier this year, the organisation's long-running chief executive, Simon Lebus, stood down after 15 years at the helm.

His intended replacement, Bill Anderson, withdrew from the role before he was able to take up the post citing "personal reasons". 

In March, the chief executive of Cambridge Assessment English, Saul Nassé, was announced as the new CEO of the group. 

Christine Nuttall has taken over from Mr Nassé as interim chief executive at Cambridge English. 

The chief executive of the Cambridge International board, Michael O'Sullivan, is also departing later this year.
