Co-ed boycott

Teachers at an east London school faced half-empty classrooms on the first day of term as children were kept at home by parents angry that they had not been consulted on the school's decision to accept girls.

About 25 per cent of Bethnal Green High School's 650 pupils were absent on Tuesday.
