Directions for the 21st century
The principal speakers will address this main theme from their perspectives of government, educational leadership, industry and careers guidance, with a panel of experts taking part in each session to offer open debate on the issues discussed.
The conference, designed for teachers, careers advisers, university and college admissions officers and employers, is running alongside Directions 95 - The Schools’ Fair, and the programme has been designed as four half-day sessions, to enable teachers to allow their students to visit the exhibition.
Session one - 9.30 June 21
Chair: Parry Rogers CBE, Chairman of ECCTIS2000 Ltd. Principal speaker: Tim Boswell MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Education.
Panel discussion of the key relationships between the education of individuals and the competitiveness of the country. Session two 1.45 June 21
Chairman: Professor Peter Toyne. Principal speaker: Sir Christopher Ball, Chairman, National Advisory Council for Careers and Educational Guidance.
Panel discussion of the many educational opportunities open to young people and the relative merits of different approaches. Session four 1.15 June 22
Chairman: Dr Kenneth Miller, Vice Chairman ECCTIS2000, former Director General of the Engineering Council. Principal speaker: Tony Watts OBE, Director, National Institute for Careers Education and Counselling.
Panel discussion of the form of careers and guidance for the 21st century. Panelists: Jim Smith, Head of Individual Commitment Branch, Employment Department; Cathy Berenzicki, Chief Executive, Institute of Careers Guidance; Malcolm Hewitt, Safeway Stores plc; Ruth Hawthorn, TESFellowship, Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge
Each session costs Pounds 20 (plus VAT) per delegate and includes light refreshments and, where available, a synopsis of the sessions attended. Bookings should be made in advance together with full payment.
