Following 18 months of composition and performance projects in 30 primary schools in Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire, a new choral work, Songs of the Forest, will be premiered at Burton Town Hall, July 7, and Lichfield Cathedral, July 8. Incorporating local folk songs and featuring hundreds of children, the work was written by Howard Moody with the pupils. The initiative is run by the Children's Music Workshop with the National Forest.

The Last Night of the Proms celebrations continue into the following day with the BBC Family Prom in the Park: Around the World in 80 Minutes with Blue Peter, in Hyde Park, London, September 11, 4-7pm.

International artists will perform alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra to mark Jules Verne's centenary.

The Royal Albert Hall Proms season runs from July 15 to September 10, with highlights including Bobby McFerrin and the African Children's Choir, August 7, 4-6.15pm, and the Blue Peter Prom - Out of this World, in Hyde Park, July 23 (10am-1pm), and July 24 (3.30-5.30pm). Featuring the BBC Philharmonic and New London Children's Choir in collaboration with the Schools Music Association, the prom will bring to life the enchanted world of the sea. The excellence and variety of youth music in Britain will be celebrated at the Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall, London SW7, November 7-9.

Performers are selected from the Music for Youth National Festival taking place at the NECBirmingham, July 11-16. As part of the festival, Singposium 2005 - Ja singing, conducting and choral day for all who work with young singers - will be run at the CBSO Centre, Berkley Street, Birmingham, July 12.
