(Photograph) - Former principal David Eade, 62, (pictured outside his home this week) has been charged with conspiracy to defraud a training firm linked to his old college.

A hearing is due to take place at Sheffield Crown Court on March 31 into the case of alleged fraud against Progress Training, a subsidiary of Barnsley College Holdings, which was set up as a charity.

Stuart Spacey, 68, a former lecturer at the college, also charged with conspiracy to defraud, appeared at a hearing at the court on Wednesday.

Eade left his post as principal in 2001 and Spacey had been a lecturer until 1992.

They had been under investigation by the Serious Fraud Office and South Yorkshire Police since 2001.

The preliminary hearing was due to last three days.
