Two Hampshire colleges have received generally favourable reports from Further Education Funding Council inspectors.

Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh, one of the largest sixth-form colleges in the FE sector, was found to be well managed and supported by an active and committed governing body.

It had a “rich and varied programme of complementary studies” and high educational standards.

But inspectors said rapid growth in student numbers had put pressure on accommodation. They also recommended that the quality assurance system should be developed further, improvements should be made to developing core skills, and learning support and data should be co-ordinated to help in planning and quality control.

Lord Mayor Treloar College in Alton, one of the larger specialist establishments for physically handicapped students, was praised for its high staff-student ratio, outstanding support and good resources. Students’ art and music achievements were especially commended.
