IT’S A FICKLE world and nothing changes more than pop music. Just when you thought you had a grip on who’s hot and not, it all shifts again, making it difficult to appear hip with your students.

So here’s a TES guide to the mysteries of the charts.

Queen of the teen warblers is Britney Spears, who has beaten off challenges from upstarts such as Christine Aguilera.

Britain’s own Billie Piper (no longer just plain Billie) is the youngest-ever female artist to have three UK number one hits.

Sh seems to have pulled off the tricky transition from fun-loving innocent teenager to knowing young woman with her most recent track, “Day and Night”.

Mel C rivals Geri Haliwell for most successful ex-Spice Girl, with a recent number one single.

But no one matches the phenomenon that is S Club 7. Hannah, Jo, Rachel, Tina, Bradley, Jon and Paul have had the quickest rise to pop fame since the Spice Girls, according to Music Week.
